Philosophy

The principles from which every design of our watches grows.

The Art of Composition

Just as a symphony does not arise from the sound of a single instrument, a watch is not the result of a single idea. Its character is shaped by the interplay of construction, proportions, materials, design, ergonomics and details. Only a harmonious whole can carry an idea, tell a story and create a lasting bond between an object and its owner.

We seek a balance between craftsmanship, engineering, innovation, aesthetics and lasting value. We strive for every element to have its own purpose and to contribute to the identity of the whole. We believe that a well-considered composition is the foundation of timelessness.

Many of our projects take shape in dialogue with their future owner. Their story, ideas and values become part of the creative process as naturally as the choice of materials, design solutions or decorative techniques. Each watch thus gains its own identity and becomes a personal expression of the person who wears it.

A Life in Time

We believe that a truly valuable watch must hold up not only at the moment it is made, but also after many years of use. That is why, from the design stage onward, we look for solutions that support long-term durability, serviceability and the retention of value over time.

We do not see repairability, restoration, modernization or careful individual modifications as add-on services. They are a natural part of a responsible approach to design. The modular principle of the individual components, the well-considered construction of the cases and the emphasis on long-term serviceability leave room for future care, further development and personalization.

We design our watches knowing that their story need not end with the first owner. We see the ability to retain technical, aesthetic and collectible value as the prerequisite for them to be worn, handed down and to take on new meaning in generations to come.

The DNA of the Collection

Designing a watch means seeking synergies between aesthetics, ergonomics, construction, materials, details, and long-term value. Each of these aspects matters on its own, but they gain real strength only when they support and enhance one another. It is in this interplay that room opens up for a design with its own identity, depth, and the ability to stand the test of time.

No PROKOP & BROŽ watch was created as an isolated project. From the very beginning, we had a clear vision of the DNA our future collection would carry and of the values, principles and relationships its design language would respect. We built a framework that can preserve a shared identity across different categories of watches while leaving enough room for further creative development.

As a result, individual models can each have a distinct character and still be immediately recognizable as part of a single whole. Their shared identity does not come from repeating the same shapes, but from a deeper set of principles that runs through the entire collection. These principles form the foundation of the PROKOP & BROŽ design language.

Design Versatility

When we designed the first PROKOP & BROŽ watch, we were not creating just a single model. We were creating a set of values, principles and relationships meant to provide the framework for an entire future collection. From the outset, we sought synergy between aesthetics, ergonomics, construction, materials, details and long-term value, because all of these aspects must be a natural part of one harmonious whole.

Most of our watches are based on the Toroid design concept, built around a case and separate lugs made from turned blanks. Toroidal cases, lugs, crowns, crystals, hands, the individual layers of the dials and leather straps form a system of interconnected components. Each of these elements has its own room to evolve. It can develop in its own direction and open up new possibilities without losing its link to the shared DNA.

It is precisely this variability that opens up exceptional creative freedom for the designer, whether used to realize an original vision or the ideas of the future owner. The result will reflect their aesthetic sensibility, personality and the story they want the watch to tell. Other tools of our design language also help fulfill this vision — materials, color compositions and decorative techniques.

Material Variety

Every material brings its own energy, character, and way of responding to light. Thanks to it, the same shape can look technical, sporty, dressy, or entirely understated. The material thus becomes another tool that shapes the final expression of the watch.

Colors, finishes, textures and modern coating technologies allow us to further develop the formal relationships between individual components. The repetition of materials, colors and surface characteristics creates a rhythm that ties the whole together and draws attention to the details we consider important. Reflections and the interplay of light between individual surfaces also play a significant role, giving the forms an added dimension and revealing their refinement even from less expected angles.

The variety of materials opens up further room for individual expression. It allows the future owner's aesthetic preferences to be addressed deliberately and supports the story the watch is meant to tell. Decorative techniques offer further possibilities, allowing even small details to carry personal meaning.

Decorative Language

Decorative techniques allow us to work deliberately with attention. They can highlight an important design detail, reinforce the rhythm of the whole composition, or draw attention to relationships between elements that would otherwise remain hidden. Often it is precisely the small details that determine how deeply the finished object can speak to its viewer.

Engraving, hand engraving, ceramic inlays, gem setting, surface finishes and the decoration of individual movement parts make up the wide range of means we work with. Each technique brings its own impulse and allows a different kind of message to develop — from a subtle accent on a construction detail to a bold symbolic motif.

This is where the most personal dimension of every project takes shape. A subtle symbol, a personal motif or a detail visible only to its owner can turn a watch into a unique piece of jewelry that carries a personal story.

“A watch is born from a story, and over its lifetime it gathers more stories.”
