Alef Bet
A hand-wound mechanical watch, distinguished above all by a module that makes the hands run counterclockwise. The design of this particular watch refers to the famous counterclockwise clock on the Jewish Town Hall in Prague’s Josefov. The chosen name ALEF needs no explanation for those in the know, but others may find it interesting that ALEF is the name of the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet and also the sign for the first hour. Jewish clocks mark the hours with letters of the alphabet rather than with numerals, as is usual in our culture. The kinship with the Arabic letter Alif, the Syriac Alaph or the more familiar Greek letter Alpha is, of course, no coincidence. It underlines the cross-cultural influences in the region.
