Omnis JCG
A dress watch with a 24-hour display, separate day and night scales and an off-center minute hand. In appearance, the watch evokes a retrograde time display. Here, however, the complex retrograde mechanism is replaced by a clever design with a double-ended hour hand. The night side is shorter and has a luminous tip that indicates the hours against a night scale with luminous numerals. The hand-wound mechanical movement features skeletonized bridges, swan-neck fine adjustment and a balance poised with screws around its rim. This bespoke one-off differs quite substantially from the original Omnis model. It is not merely a design transformation: the watch has an entirely separately developed module that moves the minute hand to an asymmetric position so that it sits in the middle of the sector indicating the shortest night recorded in Bern, where the client lives. In design terms, the watch is unique for its luminous titanium applique, which carries the complete night-time information, and for the dial graphics, which mark both the longest and the shortest day in Bern time. Nowhere else in the world will a watch in this form make as much sense as in Bern.
